The Princess Alexa Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is "to celebrate the childhood spirit of seriously ill children through dress up and play." Created in 2008, the foundation is named in memory of Alexa Aigner, a four-year-old girl who died of neuroblastoma that same year.

Since its inception, the Princess Alexa Foundation has started multiple projects providing dress-up opportunities for ill children across the United States.

History

The Princess Alexa Foundation was first organized in August 2008, shortly after the passing of Alexa Aigner, the 4-year-old daughter of founders Crys and Zack Aigner. The foundation's goals are inspired from Alexa's enjoyment of playing dress up and her desire to one day play in a "pink park."

Current projects

The foundation has four major projects that provide dress up and play opportunities for children undergoing medical treatment:

Dress Up Deliveries: An ongoing project that delivers dress up clothing and accessories to hospitalized children based on their individual likes and interests. The packages are mailed throughout the United States, usually within a week of a child's wish list submission.

Hospice Care Happiness: An ongoing project that provides dress up clothing and accessories to terminally ill children and their siblings who are on hospice care in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Dress Up Closets for Children's Hospitals: Portable dress up closets filled with costumes and accessories for children to keep. The closets are maintained through ongoing costume drives. The first closets, "Princess Alexa's Dress Up Closet" and "Master Blake's Character Cave" will be presented to Children's Medical Center (Dallas) on June 25, 2009. Over 5000 costumes and accessories were collected for these first two closets.

Friendship Park: A playground tailored to allow all children, including those with special needs, opportunities to play with siblings and friends in a safe environment. The Princess Alexa Foundation is currently in the initial planning and fundraising stages of this project with Keller Park and Recreation, but plans to open the park in 2011.
