Marchesa is an American brand specializing in high-end womenswear based in New York City. It was established in 2004 by Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig. The brand can often be seen to have luxury Indian clothes and design elements infused, such as high-end, luxury clothes & textiles, embroideries, beadwork, craftsmanship and detailing such as Zardozi among others found in Indian couture, as Indian fashion and couture serves as inspiration for the designers who also source their material and design elements from there.
Until recently, Marchesa was known for designing dresses for a number of a-List celebrities, including Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Lopez, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, and Penélope Cruz. The success of the brand among celebrities was in part attributed to the influence of Harvey Weinstein, husband of Chapman and one of the most prominent producers in Hollywood, who reportedly pressured actresses who appeared in his movies to wear the brand. After allegations emerged, from over 100 actresses, that Harvey Weinstein had raped, assaulted, or sexually harassed them, Marchesa, once a mainstay of the red carpet, has been shunned by all the celebrities attending various awards ceremonies, in favor of other brands.

Marchesa launched a handbag line and wedding dresses and collaborated with Lenox on dinnerware designs.
In 2010 Marchesa collaborated with Le Métier de Beauté on a cosmetics line featuring the palettes of designers Chapman and Craig.

History
Marchesa is named after socialite Marchesa Luisa Casati. British-born Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig met at Chelsea College of Art and Design in London. Chapman, a 2001 graduate of the Wimbledon School of Art, began her career as a costume designer. Craig graduated from Brighton Art College in 2000 and subsequently focused on print and embroidery design. Chapman's draping and design paired with Craig's textile creations resulted in the establishment of Marchesa in 2004.

The brand has been worn by a number of Hollywood actresses on the red carpet including: Penélope Cruz, Blake Lively, Jennifer Lopez, Kate Hudson, Cameron Diaz, Selena Gomez, Halle Berry, Leighton Meester, Holland Roden, Eva Longoria, Miley Cyrus, Emma Watson, Olivia Wilde, Kristen Stewart, Nikki Reed and Hailee Steinfeld. Sandra Bullock wore Marchesa at the 2010 Academy Awards, where she won Best Actress and was also named among the best dressed by readers of the Huffington Post. A number of celebrities wore Marchesa to the 2016 Met Gala, including Poppy Delevingne, Karolína Kurková, and Nina Dobrev.
